FAQ - Toll Roads and Motorways in Europe

In several parts of Europe, if you break down on a motorway for which you have paid a fee then the managers of the motorway system will arrange for the rescue of your vehicle following a call for assistance following a breakdown or accident.

As the motorways are effectively private roads they operate their own breakdown assistance services and in order to protect this revenue stream they prohibit external breakdown providers gaining access to these roads. Sorry, its not that we dont want to get to you, its that we cant and this rule applies to all UK assistance providers including ourselves, the AA, and the RAC.

If you do breakdown and need assistance you will be charged for this service but if you keep a receipt, your policy will refund up to €100 towards the costs of assistance, including towing charges and time the mechanic has spent working on the insured vehicle at the roadside.
